Celebs all over the world are getting more and more sentimental about their wedding anniversaries and are spending more time and money on anniversary gifts and celebrations.

With more anniversaries being enjoyed in the summer its not surprising that a lot of our favorite celebs are heading abroad to spend their special day in the sun. Coleen and Wayne Rooney have reached their 1st wedding anniversary this month and the happy mother to be revealed plans for a holiday to spend some quality time with her hubby. When it comes to wedding anniversaries even the stars are looking for something romantic and special for that big day.

American actress Tori Spelling has celebrated her 3rd wedding anniversary this year and received a special anniversary gift - an antique diamond ring - from her husband, Dean McDermott, who is rumoured to give his wife a new ring for each anniversary.

2009 also saw Britains joint longest  married couple celebrate their 80th anniversary. Walter Postings and his wife Beatrice who live together in residential care will break the record next year when they hit their 81st wedding anniversary!

Zoe Ball and her DJ husband Norman Cook have celebrated their 10th anniversary and instead of going for traditional anniversary gifts they’ll be jetting off on a second honeymoon - the perfect way to enjoy their day.

2009 sees fewer wedding anniversaries than ever since 1895

2009 is predicted to see a record low in Wedding Anniversaries. Statistics show a constant drop in wedding anniversaries since 1895 with fewer people celebrating an anniversary each year.

There were 270,000 wedding anniversaries in the UK  in 2008, a fall of
2.7 per cent since 2007. Marriages registered in England and Wales fell by 3.3 per cent in 2007 to 231,450, which is the lowest number of marriages since 1895. With marriages decreasing and divorce rate rising there has been a significant reduction in early and late anniversaries. This paints an incredibly bleak picture for the UK.

1st wedding anniversaries have obviously been the most drastically hit year on year closely followed by the higher anniversaries as the number of couples making it to their 25th anniversary have fallen hugely.

Rebecca Philipson, Director of personalized wedding anniversary gift company, Inthepaper.co.uk, had this to say:

‘More and more people are opting for co-habiting and not getting married, this is the primary reason for the drop in wedding anniversaries year on year.

I do think it’s a shame that people aren’t getting married as much and of course this has had a knock on effect on gift companies all over.

We offer personalized wedding anniversary newspapers which are terrific gifts for anyone celebrating a wedding anniversary. They’ve always been hugely popular because they’re so personalized and include a wedding photo, couples really love them.

Obviously with the 1st wedding anniversary being a ‘Paper’ anniversary our personalized newspapers are particularly sought after for those. With fewer and fewer people celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary and most anniversaries in general we’ve seen a significant drop in these orders when comparing them to previous years and other occasions such as birthdays.

This has been somewhat balanced out but the huge increase in gay marriages which seem to be going from strength to strength.’

Researchers have predicted that the trend will continue and is even more likely to do so given the economic problems the UK is currently experiencing. One source explained:

‘People can’t afford to get married, if they have money they’re either saving it or spending it on what they perceive to be more practical things. Until we see an improved economy I think wedding anniversary stats will continue to drop.’

Why It Really Is All About Birthdays!

Everyday more than 18 million people sing Happy Birthday.

In March 2009 experts estimated that the world population grew to 6.6 billion people and is forecast to continue to escalate, meaning of course, more birthdays.

Every year you share your birthday with more than 19 million people.

It is estimated that you are never more than 10 days from the birthday of a close friend or family member.

All of these facts really do make it clear to us just how much of role birthdays play in all of our lives. Birthdays and their celebrations are times when happy memories are made, the whole family get together and commemorate the day someone they care about was born. When you look back over the years birthdays are landmarks in people’s lives, what you did for your 16th birthday, your 18th birthday or your 21st will never be forgotten and neither will one or two presents that someone got you that you will remember forever.

We all try to mark milestone birthdays with special gifts ‘something to keep’ and to show we care. Inthepaper understand that everyone wants to give the gift that will be remembered, that will make them laugh and is completely different to what everyone else got. Inthepaper offer unique gifts that are guaranteed to make them smile.

Because we understand that it is all about Birthdays we have launched a dedicated Birthday Gifts category on our website.
