Ever wonder where the idea for Christmas presents came from? Maybe you’re at the stage where you feel you’ll never forgive the person who invented them?! Can’t blame you: shopping for Christmas gifts is one of the most stressful things to do. Maybe it’s the hustle and bustle, perhaps it’s the fear of disappointing a loved or it could just be that you simply don’t have time.
One thing that makes Christmas even more stressful is the financial worry surrounding it. Everything’s so expensive! What happened to the days when £20 could buy a really good Christmas present? Nowadays everything costs so much, a concert ticket or a bottle of perfume and you’re looking at £30 or more!
That’s why we are so determined to keep our prices low. We know that £20 should get you a top Christmas present and with us it will. Take a look at what some of our customers have to say.
Reviews on our Christmas Presents
"I love your website! I’m doing all my Christmas shopping online this year and what a difference it’s made. I’ve actually bought 3 papers so far for my husband Richard, his mother and my sister who lives in Spain. I can’t wait to give my hubby his on Xmas day! Great site and good prices I’ll be recommending you!"
Marie Louise Timmins, Penrith.
“Dear Inthepaper, I recently ordered from you and I chose the ‘Hits Number One’ story as a Christmas present for my grand-daughter who loves pop groups and singing. I am pleased with the £19.99 frame I picked so she could put it on her bedroom wall. I wish I had noticed that I could have chosen my local newspaper to have the story printed on and I would suggest you make this more obvious to people on your website. Thank you.”
Jean Rain, Stirling.
Who decided to give Christmas Presents?
Saint Nicholas Day (6th December) was the traditional day for giving gifts to children. It is still the day on which children receive gifts from St. Nicholas in the Netherlands. Epiphany (6th January) is, in the western Church, the commemoration of day on which the three kings presented the baby Jesus with gifts.
Gifts are now exchanged on Christmas Day in a sort of compromise of Dutch, German, and British gift-giving customs.
Why do we put our Christmas Presents under the tree?
The Christmas tree is a Christianised pagan custom that originated in Germany. German settlers introduced it in America. It became popular during the nineteenth century and then later spread to Britain and Japan from the US.
